 Our Charity for 2010 Anew You Day Spa has chosen the Humane Society of Cumberland County as their charity for 2010. Each time you get a 1-hour massage at full price, $1 will be donated to HSCC. Every 3 months, we'll do a special fund-raiser & all proceeds will go to HSCC. They need bleach, paper towels, hand sanitizer, kitty litter, disposable latex gloves, volunteers to walk dogs, retired RN's to assist Dr. Jessie McBrayer during surgery Mon., Wed., & Fri.; folks to foster cats & dogs (see story below of Ol' Gal, a special needs dog we are fostering), money & more. Feel free to drop off the above mentioned items at our spa & we'll get them to HSCC. If you prefer, simply send your monetary donations to the Humane Society of Cumberland County at 594 Cook Rd., Crossville, TN 38555. Currently, they are working with Kuranda to provide beds for the dogs. Go to http://www.kuranda.com/donate/4775 . This will send all your donations of beds or other items from Kuranda directly to HSCC. HSCC are under new management, going in a new direction as they endeavor to become a no-kill facility thus giving dogs & cats a new "leash" on life. A no-kill facility is rare in these parts, so we are very fortunate to have these caring folks donating their valuable time to meet the needs of these precious animals until a suitable home and loving family can be found for them. Story of Ol' Gal Ol' Gal, is approximately 9 years of age. She was found by Animal Control, starving to death, with a collar imbedded in her neck that she had literally grown into. Her legs are weak and shaky and the bones on her back stick out. Her ribs still show, though she eats well and has filled out considerably since she first came to us. She is deaf and partially blind. This doesn't hamper her spirit as she is sweet, friendly and likes to follow us around. She plays well with our other dogs. We'd like to hope someone out there would love to adopt her, but the chances are slim. We don't mind. At least before her life ends, she'll know loving kindness and have some fun.
